Injuries Already Having An Effect On World Series Betting Odds

Tags: Injuries, Injuries Already

Every year, Major League Baseball teams go through a long spring training in preparation of the new season. The many exhibition games lends itself to the possibility that injuries could occur before the season even begins.

The 2011 season is still over a week away, yet already World series betting odds have been altered by injuries on teams that were expected to make a long playoff run. The biggest disappointment has come out of the St. Louis Cardinals camp.

The Cardinals are one of the few teams in the league that were heading into this season with two legitimate aces. Chris Carpenter and Adam Wainwright are considered to be among the best at their craft, and other National league Central teams were cringing at the idea of having to face the two star pitchers back to back.

Fortunately for those teams, that will now not be the case after Wainwright went down with a season ending arm injury. That leaves the Cardinals looking to fill a major role just days before the regular season begins. The team insists they will not panic, and they have shown in the past the ability to overcome this type of adversity.

Carpenter, himself, missed a large portion of games for the Cardinals several seasons ago. It was at that time that Wainwright started to become one of the best pitchers in baseball. Pitching Coach Dave Duncan is considered to be the best in the business by many experts, and his ability to develop talent has been unmatched during his run alongside Manager Tony LaRussa.

St. Louis was one of the betting favorites when sports books revealed their first set of odds for the new season. The odds have since dropped after the Wainwright injury, but gamblers who jumped on the future bet early will have to live with the odds they were given at the time of the bets.
