Just When Heat Look Like Betting Favorites, They Lose To Cavaliers
The Miami Heat have been one of the toughest teams in the NBA for gamblers to rely on. Miami came into the season as the betting favorite to win a championship, and at times they have looked unbeatable. Other times, however, like on Tuesday night, Miami has looked ordinary.
The Heat played their toughest stretch of the season last month and the team that was supposed to win it all struggled. Miami could not beat many of the top teams in the league, and just when everybody was set to count them out, LeBron James and company started another winning streak.
That is what made what happened in Cleveland on Tuesday that much more puzzling for bettors. The Heat have made a living feasting on the bottom of the NBA this season, but they were humiliated 102-90 by one of the worst teams in the league.
Now, it appears as though gamblers are going to have to live with the current version of “The Heatles.” While the actual group they have nicknamed themselves after never seemed to lose interest in their craft, James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, and the cast around them at times have been disconnected on the court.
In order for the Heat to win the championship this season, they will have to figure out a way to win a close game down the stretch. The good teams that have made baskets and slowed Miami down to a half court offense, have had success, and that is what Miami will see come playoff time.
Ironically, the Los Angeles Lakers are playing the best basketball in the league heading towards the playoffs, and that is one team Miami has had little problem with, beating the defending champs twice this season. It is the Lakers, however, not Miami that looks like they will be the favorite to win it all when the playoffs begin in a couple of weeks.
