MLB Betting Starting To Take Shape For Chalk Gamblers

Tags: Gamblers

Betting baseball is perhaps one of the toughest sports to figure out for gamblers. While it is rare that strong NFL teams are upset by bottom dwellers, it happens quite often in baseball, making it almost a coin flip each night for bettors. The beginning of the 2011 season started rocky for those gamblers who like to bet chalk, which in gambling terms, means the favorites. The Boston Red Sox, Minnesota Twins, and San Francisco Giants were all picked by analysts to be at the top of their divisions. After a couple of weeks, however, they all were much closer to the bottom than the top. The calendar is only a week away from turning to June, and that is usually the time when all of the early season magic starts to fade for the upstarts. This year has been no different, as May comes to a close, teams such as the Red Sox and Giants have climbed their way back towards the top of the standings in their respective divisions. Boston was one of the biggest disasters for gamblers early on. The Red Sox signed Carl Crawford and traded for Adrian Gonzalez this past off season, making them the odds makers’ choice to win the World Series. Instead of coming out of the gates hot, Boston started 2-9. They have since climbed out of that hole, and now sit only one game behind the Yankees and Tampa for first place. The American League Central has also turned some heads so far this year. Perennial powers Chicago and Minnesota have been replaced at the top of the division by Cleveland and Kansas City. The Royals have faltered of late, but the Indians have the best record in baseball at 29-15. Minnesota finds themselves 14.5 games out of first. In the National League, Philadelphia, St. Louis, and the Giants all lead their divisions, as odds makers had predicted with their ow odds for division crowns for all three teams. The Marlins are staying close to Philly, just 1.5 games behind. The Braves, Mets, and Nationals are all within seven games of the division lead.
