2011 World Series Predictions Game 6 Texas Rangers vs St. Louis Cardinals
Mother Nature wanted the 2011 World Series to last one more day, so here we are! Luckily, forecasts in the St. Louis area look a lot more promising tonight, as Game 6 of the 2011 World Series should be playing without interruption.
On the brink of elimination, the (2-3) St. Louis Cardinals [-116] return to Busch Stadium hoping to put all the pressure on the (3-2) Texas Rangers [+106] by forcing a decisive Game 7. First pitch of this World Series picks match-up is scheduled for 8:05 PM ET this evening and it’ll be broadcasted live on FOX.
The only positive that can be taken from last night’s game being postponed is the fact that both pitchers will be able to make their start tonight. On the hill for Ron Washington will be RHP Colby Lewis (2011 postseason: 1-1, 2.95 ERA in 18.1 IP) as he will try to outduel LHP Jaime Garcia (2011 postseason: 0-2, 3.97 ERA in 22.2 IP). The OVER/UNDER for tonight’s game will be a bit lower than it was last night, as the projected total in runs is set at 7.
Washington has to be feeling great about his chances to close out the series tonight, as Lewis has been the franchise’s most reliable guy for two consecutive years now. I can assure you that team president Nolan Ryan is ecstatic about the possibility of getting his first-ever, World Series title as an executive.
You would think that a guy with the career numbers Ryan has would have been able to win multiple rings, but that’s not the case. In fact, Ryan’s Rangers were only able to muster one championship in 1969. Ryan finished his MLB career with a record of 324-292, 5,714 strikeouts (MLB record), an ERA of 3.19 and 7 no-hitters, which is also a league record.
“I think when he gets in the postseason that he gets really focused,” Ryan said of Lewis. “He’s one of these guys that has a tendency to take his game to another level. I think he’s extremely prepared and knows what he wants to do, and he sticks to his game plan. I know Colby well enough now that when he makes a pitch and he doesn’t get it, I can see it.
“I can read it through his body language, but he does not let that carry over to the next pitch. So I just think that where he is in his professional career and the discipline that he has serves him quite well, and if you look at our pitching staff, Colby has been our best postseason performer over the last two years.”
My 2011 World Series Predictions Game 6: I have to stick with the Cardinals and their chances to extend the series to one more game. Even though I really think both guys are going to come out and make quality pitches, I don believe that in the end, St. Louis will find a way to get it done against the Rangers’ bullpen. The cold weather should be a factor favoring the Cards’ World Series betting odds tonight, as the Rangers are used to the nice Texas heat during this time of year.
