San Jose, CA (Sports Network) – Patrick Marleau and Torrey Mitchell each scored twice as San Jose downed Calgary, 6-3, at HP Pavilion.

The win gives San Jose 94 points and puts the team three points ahead of Phoenix for the Pacific Division lead and one point back of Detroit for the second spot in the Western Conference. San Jose and Detroit both have eight games to play while Phoenix has seven.

Logan Couture and Andrew Desjardins each scored a goal while Antti Niemi stopped 22 shots for the Sharks, who have won four straight.

Miikka Kiprusoff gave up all six goals on 38 shots while Cory Sarich, Jarome Iginla and Rene Bourque all scored for the Flames, who have dropped three straight and six of their last seven at the wrong time.

With 85 points and six games to play, Calgary sits in 10th place in the Western Conference, two points behind Anaheim for the final playoff spot and a point behind Dallas, both of which have nine games remaining.

San Jose scored three minutes in on a goal from Mitchell, but Iginla’s 34th of the season 4:13 later on the power play tied the game.

Desjardins lit the lamp just over two minutes later while Sarich scored with 6:01 to play, but Marleau scored at the 14:59 mark and again with 2:27 to play in the first on the power play to give San Jose a 4-2 lead heading into the second.

Bourque’s wraparound goal from the left side with 6:40 left in the second made it a one-goal game, but Mitchell backhanded home a rebound from in front during a scramble for a 5-3 lead heading into the third.

Couture scored off a wrister from the left circle on a 2-on-1 break with 8:05 to play to cap the scoring.

San Jose plays in Los Angeles on Thursday…Calgary, which is 0-1-2 on a four- game road trip, plays in Edmonton on Saturday…San Jose took three of four from Calgary this season…Calgary went 1-for-1 on the power play while San Jose was 1-for-2.
