Cavendish Continues to Climb

Tags: Cavendish, Cavendish Continues

Manxman Mark Cavendish has continued his amazing run of winning Tour de France sprints this year with a thrilling victory in both the 5th and 7th stages. The sprinter, who is going after the coveted Green Jersey this year, has now won a total of 17 stages since he began the tour placing him in equal 8th place in the table of most stage wins of all time.

The Tour, which is being covered on ITV 4, has once again been blighted by doping allegations after Russian Alexandr Kolobnev tested positive for diuretic hydrochlorothiazide. Kolobnev, who won Olympic Silver in 2008, has denied doping saying he “did not know where it came from” but has still been withdrawn from the team he was riding for.

With the exciting tour continuing, there has been an unprecedented amount of crashes! Here is one example, when a French TV car swears unnecessarily causing riders to fall and one to somersault spectacularly into the fence.

Although the tour still has a long way to go, many of the favourites have already suffered many incidents that mean their victory chances range from unlikely to impossible. Alberto Contador, who was the pre-race favourite, despite having been disqualified from last year’s race after it had finished after information of his drug use surfaced, is over 7 minutes behind the leaders after crashing 4 times so far.

So far the man leading, and therefore wearing the Yellow jersey, is Frenchman Thomas Voeckler. To hear news on the rest of the Tour and for the best odds on the race as it infolds, ‘Like’ our Facebook page ‘betinternet’.
